What is Discernment Counseling?

Discernment Counseling helps couples examine other options before making the decision to end a marriage. Many times couples arrive at my office with different agendas regarding their relationship; one partner may be “leaning out” of the marriage, heading towards separation or divorce while the other may be “leaning in,” hoping there is a way to rebuild. The goal of Discernment Counseling is to help you gain clarity and confidence in your decision, whatever that may be.

I will help you look at your individual contributions to the breakdown of the marriage and together we will all look at possible solutions. These communication skills are valuable for dealing with present relationships and situations and moving forward into new relationships should the current one end.

The therapy consists of 1-5 sessions where I work with you separately and together, each of you discussing your own agenda and issues, in order to figure out how to move forward before making any life-changing decisions.

Note: There are many interesting insights available at DiscernmentCounseling.com. Please be advised that Discernment Counseling is not intended when one spouse has already made a decision to divorce; when one is coercing the other to participate; and when one is in danger of domestic violence.
